Before we get to the latest details about this teardown custom home, here’s a quick recap:
The homeowners started working on the design for their new home about three years ago. After reviewing countless renderings, they settled on one that depicts their dream home and features a rustic prairie motif. With the design finalized, our team began the teardown of the existing home on the property in June. We laid the new walkout foundation in July and we’ve begun framing the new home. Getting to this point took some thoughtful planning, as we’re building at a 30-degree angle. While tricky, this allows for unique configurations of the custom home’s rooms and windows.
Now the bones of the home are really starting to come together as framing has started to wrap up. The framing process involved installing massive beams, including a steel beam to ensure structural integrity. The overall design of the home is very unique. It features a cantilevered front porch, which is an architectural design that uses a beam that is anchored at just one point. This teardown custom home’s cantilever porch includes an intergeral barrel vault highlighted by an eye-catching window.
This type of project has become popular among Utah residents, especially in this particular neighborhood. The rising cost of land in Salt Lake City and the surrounding area makes lot recycling an extremely viable option for many homeowners. So, if you have a home on a lot you love, choosing to teardown and rebuild may be a better option than purchasing an new home and lot.
