It’s all about love this month, and what better thing to do than to show your home some love for Valentine’s Day. February can be a really dreary month, but if you take some time to show your home some love you’ll love the way your house looks when the sun starts to shine – especially on all those nooks and crannies we tend to avoid during the darker months. Here are some simple ways to show your home some love, they won’t break the bank and shouldn’t take more than a weekend afternoon to complete.
Show Your Home Some Love for Valentine’s Day
Clean your Dining Room Chandelier – While you’re at it clean all the light fixtures in the house. A simple cleaning tool like a feather duster or Swiffer duster should be plenty to remove the layer dust that has settled in over the years. However, you may find you need something with a little more power for areas like the kitchen where grease tends to settle. Use a cup of white distilled vinegar with a gallon of warm water to clean the glass shades on your kitchen chandeliers. Wipe dry with a soft cloth to avoid any spotting and return to the light fixture.
Spruce Up the Bathroom – If you’re still using the towels you got as a wedding present twenty years ago, it might be time to replace them. You can easily spruce up your bathroom just by replacing old worn out towels with new ones. Choose a bright color or go white to make the room look fresh and clean.
Clean Under the Couch – Yes, we should all do this regularly but depending on where the couch is located – against a wall vs middle of the room – you might let it go. Out of sight, out of mind. If you have pets, you’re going to find everything that ever went missing and then some. Same goes for kids. If you have neither kids nor pets, you’re just going to find a family of dust bunnies. Either way, cleaning out under the couch is an incredibly satisfying task that only takes a few minutes.
Showerhead Revamp – No matter what kind of water you have, there’s bound to be calcium build up on your showerhead. This can cause the water to shoot in all kinds of directions it’s not supposed to go and even plug up many of those little holes. Grab your vinegar solution from above and pour into a plastic bag and secure around the showerhead so it is completely submerged in the solution. Secure bag with rubber band or twist-tie and leave on overnight. Remove in the morning and shower as usual.
De-lint the Laundry Room – Ideally you should be cleaning the lint trap every time you use the dryer. Even if you are, lint can accumulate in other parts of the laundry room. Take a hand held vacuum and get into those areas you don’t normally see or clean – under the dryer, behind the dryer, and between the dryer and washing machine. While you’re at it, make sure the venting from the dryer to outside is sealed up tight. Use vent attachment to clean venting from outside to the dryer. Not only will your home produce less dust, but you’ll reduce the risk of fire by cleaning up all the lint.
