One of the great things about the home building and remodeling industries is the ever-evolving products and materials. As technology advances, these innovations lead to products that can completely change the game. From smart home technology to energy-efficient materials, we can’t help but love how these products make our client’s lives easier and improve home design. One of our favorite advancements has been in flooring technology. Recent years have shown a rise in the popularity of luxury vinyl floor products, including vinyl tiles and planks. Luxury vinyl tiles (LVT) are the perfect alternative to traditional tile floors, and it’s really no surprise more and more homeowners are using it in their home design. After all, there are so many benefits!

Variety

In addition to being relatively affordable, luxury vinyl tile is available in a wide range of colors and styles that mimic the look of stone. Luxury vinyl is also available in plank form, which resembles the look of real wood while being much more durable and long-lasting.

Durability

Unlike traditional vinyl, luxury vinyl tile cannot be dented, punctured, or scratched. Luxury vinyl tile is also resistant to the extreme temperature changes and high humidity that can cause hardwood and laminate flooring to warp. These characteristics, combined with the fact LVT is 100% waterproof, make it perfect for use in commercial spaces, kitchens, bathrooms, and basements, as well as homes with active families and pets.

Easy to Install

Luxury vinyl tile can be installed much quicker than other types of flooring, thanks to its innovative “click-lock” technology. The tiles simply click together and can be installed over most existing surfaces as long as it is relatively flat. While LVT is considered a floating or loose-laid floor, it can also be glued down.

Warmth & Sound Insulation

Most LVT comes with some sort of backing, whether cork or another material. The extra cushion not only makes walking and standing on the tile more comfortable but it also adds warmth. Luxury vinyl tiles are typically compatible with in-floor heat too, so you can officially say goodbye to icy cold tiles! The backing also insulates sound, so it’s much quieter to walk on than traditional ceramic tiles.

Low-Maintenance

Taking care of luxury vinyl tile is a breeze! The flooring can be cleaned quite easily, only requiring hot water and a mop. In between mopping, LVT can be swept of dusted using a dry mop. While these tiles are generally scratch, chip, and crack resistant, there may come a time when you need to replace one or two. The good news is that it’s much easier than it sounds! Luxury vinyl tile is often sold in cartons containing individual pieces, so you can simply replace the tiles one-by-one as needed.
